2. Gregg Popovich wins Coach of the Year

It is no secret that a huge part of the Spurs’ success is credited to Popovich. Since taking over the head coach position in 1996, he has a record of 1150-506, including five championships.

He is a three-time Coach of the Year with the Spurs, and rightfully so. He is responsible for helping Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard reach their fullest potential. It is hard telling the careers they would have had without Pop to guide them into the right direction.

As noted earlier, this year is huge for the Spurs, especially because they are going to have to play a smaller, more fast-paced offense. A daunting task like this should be nothing new for Pop. He has faced uphill battles many times in his career. If he is able to produce another great season, then Popovich will be among the frontrunners for Coach of the Year once again.
