3. Finish second in the West
During the offseason, the Western Conference added some new faces. The Oklahoma City Thunder added Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, the Houston Rockets added Chris Paul, and the Minnesota Timberwolves added Jimmy Butler. Because of all the new talent added to these teams, it will be harder to secure a good seed in the West.
Everyone is chasing the Golden State Warriors this season. They are more than likely going to secure that No. 1 seed with ease. Because of this, the fight for second might be the most interesting part of the NBA regular season.
The Spurs were able to secure that second seed last season over the Rockets. With Leonard on track to have another great season, Aldridge becoming more comfortable in the offense, and Dejounte Murray blossoming, the Spurs have what it takes to finish second. It is just about doing it now.
