4. Shoot at least 46 percent from the field

Love’s shooting numbers have taken a dive since arriving in Cleveland. After shooting at a 45.1 percent clip over six seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Love has converted at just a 42.6 percent clip during his time with the Cavaliers.

Granted, there are a whole host of reasons as to why Love’s shooting numbers have dropped off over the last three seasons. As touched upon, the lack of touches in the post, and on the elbows, have decreased the number of ways in which Love can operate on the offensive end.

Therefore, a lack of touches and opportunities is going to lead to a decrease in field goal attempts. Love went from averaging 18.5 field goal attempts in 2013-14 to averaging 12.7 per game in his first two seasons in Cleveland. This number jumped slightly to 14.5 per game last season, but is a far cry from his days with there Timberwolves.

Possibly the most notable difference in Love’s shooting from the field has been his accuracy within five feet of the rim. In 2013-14, Love converted at a 63.6 percent clip from this range, and made up 29.8 percent of his total field goal attempts. This past season, Love’s shooting rate dropped to 54.2 percent within five feet of the rim, and made up 24.5 percent of his total attempts.

With former starting center Tristan Thompson being relegated to the second unit, Love should have the room and opportunity to operate down low in order to lift his field goal percentage up to his pre-Cleveland days.
