3. LeBron James

Quick and to the point, LeBron James is quite possibly the biggest obstacle for the Celtics to contend in 2017. This may not be the direction that many would go with “obstacles,” but he is without question worthy of making this list.

James has dominated the Eastern Conference throughout his career. Over the past seven years, no team has been in the NBA Finals unless they had James on their roster. He has taken the Miami Heat and Cavaliers to the Finals in those seven years.

Once again, the Cavaliers are favored to represent the Eastern Conference in the Finals.

Getting past James is never easy in the postseason. Boston was dismantled last season by the Cavaliers, although it was forced to play without Isaiah Thomas due to injury. That being said, James is a serious obstacle for the Celtics this season.
