Storyline 2: John Wall commits long-term

Re-signing Otto Porter wasn’t the only good news that came from the Washington Wizards this offseason. They were also able to sign point guard John Wall to a contract extension through 2021-22, with a player option for 2022-23.

The Wizards wasted no time locking down Wall long-term, which is good for the future of the franchise. They went through this past offseason without a draft pick once again, trading it away for point guard Tim Frazier, so developing young talent is currently a limited task.

Wall was able to secure the extension after being selected to All-NBA Third Team for his play in 2016-17. He averaged a career-high 23.1 points, 10.7 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game last year.

Wall is currently the only player from the 2010 draft class still with his original team. He’s remained loyal to the Wizards and it’s paid off in Year 1 under head coach Scott Brooks. Year 2 should bring more changes, hopefully positive ones, as the Wizards look to make a run to the playoffs once again.
