NBA: Ranking all 30 starting point guards for 2017-18
24. Jamal Murray, Denver Nuggets
Even with all the positive things we’re hearing about Emmanuel Mudiay‘s summer, Jamal Murray has the inside track to the Denver Nuggets‘ starting job considering his competition is a potential draft bust and 67-year-old Jameer Nelson.
Though he only posted 9.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game on 40.4 percent shooting in his rookie season, Murray flashed some pretty dazzling potential, eventually taking over the starting gig and upping his numbers to 13.0 points, 4.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game on 42.1 percent shooting once he got there.
His 3-ball and defense still need work, and since he’s only 20 years old entering his second season, this is reasonably high for a player with his lack of experience. Don’t sleep on this kid moving forward, but for this season, 24th among starting point guards feels about right.
