The Washington Wizards’ rotation players were used for a majority of this preseason matchup and ultimately showed improvement in a 102-94 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The focal point of the Washington Wizards‘ offseason was spent improving their bench rotation. The horizon is beginning to look ever more optimistic through just a handful of preseason games, though Markieff Morris‘ temporary replacement is yet to be determined.

John Wall and the core of starters played few minutes and the same can be said for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were without LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, J.R Smith and Iman Shumpert. This was a clash of the teams’ bench players that panned out to be a competitive game for the most part.

The Wizards came out firing, outscoring Cleveland 38-29 in the first quarter, but ended up trailing by one point at the half. Neither team was very successful from beyond the arc and there was plenty of sloppy play from both sides, totaling 45 turnovers for the game.

Kelly Oubre Jr. showed improvement coming off a rusty game against the Knicks and Jason Smith was benched for the game. Mike Scott and Jodie Meeks were given a fair dose of minutes, while we got a long look at Tomas Satoransky, who led the team with 34 minutes played.

Here are three takeaways from the Washington Wizards’ third preseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
