Which five rookies should be considered “dark horse” candidates to win the 2017-18 NBA Rookie of the Year award?

The 2017-18 NBA season is coming up quickly and there are quite a few reasons for fans to be excited. Whether those reasons are the new “super teams” that have been formed or an up-and-coming team that is looking to take the next leap forward, there are a lot of things to watch this year.

Outside of the defending champion Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, there are a few more teams expected to compete for a championship. Teams like the Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder have all brought in stars in an attempt to get back into title contention.

Many big names have moved teams and conferences as well. Among those players are Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Paul Millsap, Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.

It has been a long time since that many stars have left their team for a fresh start elsewhere. There are also quite a few rookies with star potential that could help take their team to the next level.

With all of that being said, which five rookies should be looked at as potential dark horse candidates to win the 2017-18 NBA Rookie of the Year award?
