4. Take more shots

Generally the problem with “stars” is that they hog the ball. Rather than move the basketball around the court and let every player touch it, the possession stops with them. Ponderous evaluations of the defense end in contested layups or smothered jumpers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo belongs to a different kind of star, one who has included his teammates from the beginning. He is always keen to pass, sparking a secondary action and ensuring they stay engaged and feel valued. But this season, at least slightly, he needs to be more selfish.

The Greek Freak is nearly unstoppable inside, and if he improves his jumper that could apply outside as well. Simply put, a possession ending in an Antetokounmpo attempt, especially around the rim, is a more efficient possession than most. Last season he shot 56 percent from the field, first on the team among qualified players.

Despite his ability to score efficiently, Antetokounmpo averaged just 13.5 field goal attempts per game. Among All-Star/All-NBA players that ranked just 19th. Moving more shots to Antetokounmpo will raise Milwaukee’s offensive ceiling and unlock the best their star has to offer.
