Washington Wizards: 3 takeaways from preseason game against Knicks

3. Otto Porter Jr. was certainly the third option
Otto Porter Jr. has arguably the highest expectations on the Wizards roster this season after signing his hefty new contract. This is the year Porter must build from his breakout 2016-17 season and show that his ability to be a marksman from beyond the arc swas not a fluke.
Preseason is the only time to shake off the cobwebs without being too critical and jumping to conclusions. The Knicks were playing decent defense contesting a solid amount of shots, which is unusual to say the least. As it should be expected, John Wall and Bradley Beal were the two scoring options in front of Porter, taking a combined 25 shots between the pair compared to Porter’s total of five shot attempts.
It went as expected, as he finished on 2-for-5 shooting with seven points in 22 minutes of action, but he did a lot of work on the glass too, grabbing seven rebounds.
He was unsuccessful from beyond the arc, shooting 0-for-2 despite his typical accuracy, but this can be waved off as preseason development.
