Toronto Raptors: 5 goals for DeMar DeRozan in 2017-18

3. If you won’t go forward, take a step back
Just as finding his way inside to the paint can become a new X-factor, DeRozan should also give the long ball just a few more touches a little more often.
Of course, he is inaccurate and inefficient from downtown with a career 28.1 percent 3-point percentage. But when someone like DeRozan is making such a high percentage of his shots from just a step or two in front of the 3-point line, an adjustment here could be all the difference.
Kyle Lowry is an outstanding shooter from beyond the arc, eclipsing the 40 percent mark last season for the first time in his career. With the addition of another 3-point specialist, C.J Miles, it is clear what the Toronto Raptors are trying to add to their game plan.
If DeMar DeRozan can step up to the task of taking a couple steps back in the perimeter and find himself behind the 3-point line in a productive way, Toronto will certainly be the beneficiary.
Last season the Raptors were 22nd in the league in 3-point attempts and finished 13th in percentage. Involving DeMar DeRozan in a more efficient manner from beyond the arc, perhaps in the way of shooting corner 3s, should be a serious goal for 2017-18.
