5. Earn a starting job

First and foremost, Jaylen Brown is hoping to earn a starting job for the Celtics. Gordon Hayward and Jayson Tatum are players playing the same position that Brown is capable of playing, which means that the Celtics will have a tough decision to make.

At this point in time, Brown looks like a serious contender to win a starting job, especially after starting in the team’s first preseason game. Tatum may end up coming off the bench and beginning his development in a reserve role. Brown certainly would fit well alongside Irving, Hayward, and Horford in the starting lineup.

Brown would bring a solid offensive game to the table, but he could make most of his money on the defensive side of the floor.

Hayward is not known for his defense, which could lead to Brown being asked to defend against the opponent’s best perimeter scorer. He played excellent defense last season for a rookie and that could end up being what earns him the starting job.
