5. Average four 3-pointers made per game

A career 36.4 percent 3-point shooter, Lowry took things to another level by connecting at a 41.2 percent clip from long range last season.

Overall, the Raptors as a team averaged just 8.8 3-pointers made per game, which ranked 21st in the league. When you discount Lowry’s average of 3.2 per game (ranked sixth among all players,) it leaves very little in the way of perimeter firepower.

So moving forward, Lowry’s proficiency from 3-point range is going to be vital considering the direction the modern game is headed. Last season, Lowry had 28 games in which he connected on four or more 3-pointers, which included six games of six 3-pointers.

Lowry has made considerable strides in his effectiveness from 3-point range in recent years, considering the 2014-15 season saw a return of 1.9 3-pointers made per game while converting at a 33.8 percent clip.

Therefore, an increase from 3.2 to 4.0 3-pointers made is certainly not out of the question. Granted, just one player in the league last season averaged at least 4.0 3-pointers made per game, which was Stephen Curry at 4.1 per game on 10.0 attempts per game.

Considering Lowry averaged 7.8 attempts per game last season, an increase of 2.0 attempts per game would be required for Lowry to reach this lofty goal. And while it’s a notable increase, it’s certainly achievable.

Last season’s winner of the Sixth Man of the Year Award, Eric Gordon, increased his 3-point attempts from 6.5 to 8.8 per game last season alone. And that’s as a Sixth Man, not the starting point guard who’s able to dictate the offence.

So with the lack of options from 3-point range on the Raptors’ roster, Lowry should be given the license to fire away at will.
