Quick notes and final thoughts

Lonzo Ball played the first preseason game in his newly-updated Big Baller Brand ZO2 Prime Remix, but opted for another sneaker brand for the second contest. Lonzo wore a pair of Nike Kobe A.D. Monday night against Denver, exercising his right as a shoe free agent to pick and choose which shoe he wants on a given night. Perhaps this ankle injury will expedite his search on settling for one sneaker type.

Larry Nance Jr. left the game in the second quarter after spraining his right index finger. I’d expect the Los Angeles Lakers to proceed with caution the rest of the preseason and see how it heals up in the two weeks before the preseason.

Summer League standout Alex Caruso and last year’s NBA D- League (now G League) Most Valuable Player Vander Blue received their first minutes of the preseason against Denver. Both were on the floor for the final minutes as the Lakers tried to close a double-digit deficit. Caruso finished with three rebounds and two assists, while Blue scored two points on 1-of-2 shooting.

There is still no timetable for when we will see Brook Lopez and Josh Hart on the court as they nurse separate injuries. Both have been increasing their workloads in practice, but are still sitting out 5-on-5 drills.

The next game for the Los Angeles Lakers is against these Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Toronto before heading back to the west coast to play the remaining three contests against the Sacramento  Kings, Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers.
