Atlanta Hawks: 5 reasons they won’t make the playoffs in 2017-18
2. Limited scoring options
Of the 20 players competing for a roster spot for the Atlanta Hawks, Dennis Schroder is not just the only player to have scored over 15 points per game last season, but at any point in their career.
To make matters even worse, the status of Schroder’s availability on opening night is in question following an arrest on misdemeanor battery charges stemming from an incident at a hookah bar Friday morning.
Atlanta scored 103.2 points per game, eighth-fewest in the league as opponents held the team below 100 points on 34 occasions a year ago.
Aside from the 17.9 points Schroder averaged a year ago, the next leading scorer with NBA experience from last year is Ersan Ilyasova, as he posted 13.1 points per game in 2016-17.
Only Ilyasova was dealt to Atlanta midseason, as he posted 10.4 points a night during his 26 games with the team.
Without any proven scoring options, outside of Schroder, the Hawks are unlikely to climb the standings in the Eastern Conference.
