5. Expand his shooting range

Rudy Gobert ranked fourth on the Jazz in field goals attempted last season, as he launched a career-high 625 shots at the rim. Only four of those shots came outside of the paint.

The no-risk approach to the offensive end of the floor was still enough for Gobert to pour in over 1,000 points for the first time in his career, as he scored 14 points a night while shooting 66.1 percent from the field.

Clippers center DeAndre Jordan was the only player to finish with a higher field goal percentage than Gobert, but the Jazz center did manage to close out the year with a true shooting percentage of 68.1 percent, best in the NBA.

Utah simply would wait for Gobert to gain post position, figure out a way to get him the ball and wait for a dunk. The tactic worked 235 times, second-most in the NBA.

Only with Gordon Hayward — the leading scorer in Utah a year ago — leaving for Boston in free agency, Gobert will need to expand his game if he wants to become the featured player on offense.

Gobert attempted just 72 jump shots a year ago, converting only 19. Focal points of the offense simply can’t convert 26.4 percent of their jump shots. Utah can still rely heavily on Gobert to attack the rim, but also round out his game a bit more in 2017-18.
