Toronto Raptors: 5 goals for Serge Ibaka in 2017-18
By Randy Porga
3. Increase field goal percentage
Apologies for yet another reference to his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he was seriously a fundamentally different player at that time. Perhaps adjusting to the new generation of basketball tendencies is not for everyone. From 2011-12 to 2013-14, Ibaka shot for 53.5, 57.3, and 53.6 percent from the field.
How about the next three years of his career? From 2014-15 he shot for 47.6, 47.9, and 48.0 percent from the field. Of course he would see a drop with the addition of the 3-ball unless he was shooting for an absurd 50 percent, but is the long ball really worth sacrificing all other facets on the court?
During the span of 2011-12 to 2013-14 which should now be referred to now as his wonder years, roughly between 32-40 percent of his total shot attempts came inside the paint. With the previous goal being a precursor into the present goal, Ibaka is simply effective down low.
He should intend on bringing his field goal percentage back up, as well as finding himself in the trenches more often to ensure that success.
