Orlando Magic: 5 players most likely to be traded this season
By Luke Duffy
2. Terrence Ross
Terrence Ross and Channing Frye have something in common, and that’s not a sentence you’re going to hear very often. Frye of course played for the Magic before being traded to the contending Cleveland Cavaliers, where his floor-spacing was a small contribution in their 2016 title win.
Ross isn’t a 3-point shooting big man, but what he is for this team (and any that he will ever play for) is a long range shooter who can heat up in a hurry.
As it stands, he’s one of the best players on this team and gave the Magic a real boost when he came over in that trade from the Toronto Raptors in the middle of last year.
The Magic should want to keep him, as he has the kind of skills essential to being a guard in the league today. He is also a young veteran who can lead the other players on this team.
Everybody has their price however, and Ross is the kind of individual that contending teams circle as the trade deadline nears.
Whether it’s a true contender, a second-tier team trying to break into that elite group or a franchise that isn’t as ready for the postseason as it thought, Ross could help them all.
So if a first round pick is presented to them, or a combination of young player and second round pick, Orlando would want to consider it. Ross is only making $10.5 million this season and next before hitting unrestricted free agency, and so he represents excellent value as well.
It may not be a move popular with many fans, but to secure the long-term future of the team it makes sense to explore a trade for Terrence Ross if one comes up. Which it likely will.
