2. Stop hesitating

McCaw is unselfish to a fault. Not in the cliche way that Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant sometimes were last season, but in a truly detrimental fashion.

At this juncture, his primary offensive function is to force someone to guard him. Every time he hesitates to shoot an open 3-pointer, he is telling his man not to stick as close to him, thus compromising the Warriors’ spacing.

Instinctually, McCaw is a passer. That is fine; in fact, it is terrific for a player Golden State is grooming to be its next Andre Iguodala. But Iguodala does not hesitate when he has an open 3, as much as his slow release makes it look like does. He has also learned over the years that shooting in rhythm is the key to making 3-pointers at a higher percentage, and McCaw’s indecisiveness often breaks his rhythm.

It would be great to see his percentage go up (he shot 33.3 percent as a rookie). But his stroke is clean enough to where it feels inevitable that he will become a plus shooter in time, regardless of what happens this year. For now, he simply needs to start shooting more and hesitating less.
