Brooklyn Nets: 5 goals for Jeremy Lin in 2017-18

5. Stay above the league average from 3-point range
This is something to be stressed on just about any player that is capable of an expanded range in today’s NBA and the league average 3-point percentage will likely spike as the games culture evolves. But this comes at a pivotal time for Lin as he is playing during his contract year.

During 2016-17 he proved that he is not only capable, but able to reach a personal career high 37.2 percent from long range, compared to the league average of 35.8 percent.
Why is this aspect especially important? With the Nets reeling in D’ Angelo Russell, the 3-ball remains a point of emphasis in Brooklyn. Last season as a team, they ranked fourth in 3-point attempts, but ranked just 26th in percentage.
For this season, a Lin/Russell tandem may not only serve as a solid one-two punch rotation at guard, but it will also be a test of who is more versatile and consistent. Russell is currently shooting 35.1 percent on the perimeter for his career, as he shot 35.1 his rookie season and 35.2 percent during 2016-17.
Lin should work on becoming more comfortable from beyond the arc, as he also averaged a career high in attempts from the outside with 4.3 per game.
