5. NBA 2K18 tie-ins

Given that Sacramento Kings minority owner Shaquille O’Neal is the cover athlete for the premium editions of NBA 2K18, it does make some sense that the 2K Sports franchise featured heavily at Kings Media Day. However, it was certainly interesting to see the degree to which the game focused on the Kings this year.

The second episode of the game’s “2KTV” featured interviews with both Shaq and De’Aaron Fox. After that, 2KTV host Rachel DeMita showed up to Kings Media Day and conducted interviews with the whole team:

While DeMita’s appearance at Media Day is not immediately indicative of on-court storylines, it does speak to the Kings’ recent turnaround in the public eye. Given the national presence of the NBA 2K games, the focus on the Sacramento Kings on this Media Day was a pleasant surprise.
