New York Knicks: 5 takeaways from 2017-18 Media Day
2. Ntilikina ready for the challenge
The rookie with the entire city on his shoulders seemed very cool and collected at his first Media Day event. Frank Ntilikina addressed his thoughts on the upcoming season and adjusting to life in New York City.
The 19-year-old spoke confidently about his abilities at the position and made sure to answer doubts from any reporters who didn’t think he couldn’t handle it.
"“I think I’m a very high IQ player,” he said. “As a point guard, I will have to lead the team while learning from the veteran players. There’s no pressure,” Ntilikina concluded about playing in New York. “What I’m doing here is working on my game. New York, for me, is the best city in the world.”"
At 6’5″ and a little over 170 pounds, Ntilikina towers over smaller defenders when handling the basketball. He’s no Magic Johnson, but his length mixed in with ball-handling and evolving passing skills proved to be a lethal combination in France.
While playing for Strasbourg, France, Ntilikina displayed the ability to guard multiple defenders and still play the passing lanes. His offensive skill-set as either the primary ball-handler or off-guard have made him valuable in many offensive schemes. Knicks fans have plenty of reason to believe his confidence moving forward.
