1. Season will not be defined by wins and losses

The Bulls are happy with the trio of players they acquired for Butler. They also have high hopes that the younger players from last year’s roster are ready to take the next step.

In spite of the love fest, however, the notable lack of talent and veteran presence on the roster means the 2017-18 campaign will be a season in which victories will not be easy to come by.

That’s the bad news.

The positive side of this narrative is the front office isn’t expecting the team to be in contention for a playoff berth, or even to be very good for that matter.

"“We’re not focused on that,” Paxson said. “We understand better than anyone what we’re about to embark on. And that’s why I keep saying the most important thing for us is the culture we have in this building. It’s very hard to define sometimes. But you know it when you see it’s positive. And it’s positive right now.”"

Not only did he advise that the season will not be defined by the team’s win-loss total, he also threw his support behind Hoiberg — something he didn’t do at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

From Chicago.CBSLocal.com:

"“Fred has our support,” Paxson said. “We believe watching how he has handled everything this summer, the way he and his staff have approached this with a more teaching element knowing we have young players.”"

For all intents and purposes, Hoiberg is more than likely breathing a sigh of relief, considering the Bulls have posted a mediocre 83-81 mark during his two seasons at the helm.

Even more importantly, with a roster comprised of mostly younger players, Hoiberg should be able to implement the brand of basketball he’s been trying to instill since the Bulls lured him out the collegiate ranks back in 2015.
