5. And then there were none (alphas)

When the Bulls acquired Rajon Rondo and Wade last offseason, they were quickly dubbed the Three Alphas. Considering the ball-dominant personalities of each individual, many wondered if the three players would be able to mesh on the court.

More from Chicago Bulls

As expected, the Bulls experienced a great deal of growing pains with the mix of youth and veteran players they had, but despite their underwhelming play for much of the season, the Bulls managed to snag the last playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

After just one season, though, the front office has shown they’ve had their fill of the Three Alphas. They began the dismantling of this bunch by executing a draft-night trade that sent three-time All-Star Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Next, they decided not to pick up the second year of Rondo’s contract even though he was the best point guard on the roster and served as both a mentor and a voice for the younger players. Now that Wade is heading out the door as well, as the last member of the trio that at times gave Bulls fans something to cheer about during a season that was filled with inconsistency.
