2. Fizdale ready to take a knee

With the discourse on the place of politics in sports becoming more prevalent than ever, it was no surprise that protest in the form of taking a knee during the national anthem was a topic at Media Day.

When asked about his stance on the matter, head coach Fizdale told Peter Edmiston, “If my guys take a knee, I’m taking a knee.”

That sounds like something between a non-answer and a commitment to action, but he elaborated further on the issue:

 Fizdale has a track record of speaking out on social issues. As a coach it is important that his players know he has their backs, and that’s what his comments expressed. We’ll find out soon enough how Memphis’ players hope to handle things.
