Los Angeles Clippers: 5 goals for Blake Griffin in 2017-18
For the first time since his rookie season, Blake Griffin is being tasked with carrying the Los Angeles Clippers franchise back to relevancy.
Blake Griffin enters the 2017-18 season with an opportunity to redefine his role within the Los Angeles Clippers organization. Without Chris Paul commanding the ball, the Clippers are likely to lean heavily on Griffin, one of the most gifted offensive power forwards in the league.
Paul had the ball in his hands an average of 86.2 times per game, for an average of 7.2 minutes. Both figures ranked in the top-10 in the league a year ago.
Even with his point guard dominating the time of possession, Griffin still managed to be one of just six players standing 6’10” or taller to dish out at least 300 assists on the year.
After seven seasons, Griffin has cemented himself as perhaps the most prolific offensive force in Clippers franchise history, posting career averages of 21.5 points, 9.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game on 51.8 percent shooting from the field.
As Los Angeles moves on from the Paul era, the necessity for Griffin to produce even more, as well as stay healthy, has become a necessity for the Clippers.
Here are five goals for Griffin as he enters the first season of a five-year, $173 million deal signed on the first day of free agency this summer.
