2. Shoot 45 percent from the field, 39 percent from downtown

There’s a reason this goal is higher on the list than averaging 25 points per game: To this point in his career, Devin Booker hasn’t been the efficient scorer or 3-point sniper he was pegged to be when he first entered the draft.

To be clear, that’s perfectly okay. He’s shown far more in terms of his all-around skill-set than anyone expected, so being worried about his career .423/.354/.835 shooting splits would be nitpicking. He’s only been in the league for two years, he’s not even 21 yet and he actually increased his 3-point efficiency to 36.3 percent on 5.2 attempts per game last year.

For a 20-year-old to be logging 35 minutes a night and taking 18.3 shots per game on a talent-deprived team, Booker’s lack of efficiency shouldn’t be the focus. As Phoenix grooms more accompanying talent and finds a distributing point guard, Book’s job will get easier, especially as he continues to expand his own offensive repertoire.

The Suns aren’t at that stage yet, but as Booker looks to increase his averages yet again and establish himself as one of the league’s up-and-coming scorers, he should aim to do so by being more efficient, rather than simply upping the volume of shot attempts.

Bearing all this in mind, gunning for a more respectable 45 percent from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range seem like reasonable goals.
