4. Maintain 3-point shooting proficency

Put simply, the higher the volume of 3-point shooting, the better the returns for Dragic.

Last season, Dragic had 29 games in which he attempted three 3-pointers or less. Over this span, he shot 16-for-64 from long range for a 25.0 percent return. Conversely, Dragic had 27 games in which he attempted five or more 3-pointers. During this span, Dragic shot 74-for-167 for a 44.3 percent clip.

Over the course of his career, a higher volume of attempts has equalled a better return for Dragic. Last season, his 4.0 attempts per game represented a career-high, for an overall return of 40.5 percent. Prior to last season, his previous high for attempts came in attempts came in 2013-14 at 3.9 per game. Not coincidentally, this brought about a career-best 40.8 percent return from long-range.

Dragic’s premier performance from downtown last season came in the midst of the Heat’s 13-game winning streak. Playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Dragic shot 7-for-9 from 3-point range on his way to 33 points and nine assists for 115-113 road win.

With head coach Erik Spoelstra having fully embraced the modern style of play, opportunities for Dragic to fire away from long range are likely to present themselves even more regularly this upcoming season. And as we’ve seen from the numbers, the Heat will certainly be hoping Dragic doesn’t hold back in this area.
