As an elite point guard Kemba Walker, the Charlotte Hornets will be counting on their floor general to achieve accomplish these goals in 2017-18.
Last season, the Charlotte Hornets missed the playoffs with a 36-46 record. It’s Kemba Walker‘s job as the leader of his team to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
The Hornets not only missed the playoffs, they were three spots out of contention — finishing 11th in the standings. Last year was the time to make a playoff push, because not only was the East fairly weak, but a lot of star players were resting throughout the season. Therefore, it’s Walker’s job to know the landscape of his conference, and see where the Hornets could’ve taken advantage.
This season there shouldn’t be any missed opportunities, and Charlotte should win the games that it is supposed to win. There are no such things as trap games for the Hornets. Charlotte must start off with the mindset that every single team in the NBA poses a challenge.
Their starting lineup has remained mostly intact. According to head coach Steve Clifford, the only change is the addition of Dwight Howard, who will be starting over Cody Zeller.
Now that the starting lineup situation has been settled, Walker knows what he has to work with. He should also know the strengths and weaknesses of each of his teammates. As the floor general, he will know who to pass to, who not to pass to, and who to involve in pick-and-roll situations.
All in all this is a good team that can become an even better team. It’s Walker’s job to get optimum performance out of every one of his teammates, including himself.
The pieces to the puzzle are all there. Walker just has to put it together. In order to do so, he must accomplish five goals that will determine whether he is truly ranked among the top point guards in the NBA.
