New Orleans Pelicans: 5 goals for DeMarcus Cousins in 2017-18
5. Develop chemistry with Anthony Davis
Last season, Davis and Cousins managed to only play a total of 394 minutes on the floor together in New Orleans. While it was an adequate sample size for fans to get a glimpse of the duo’s future together, it was not enough time for the two All-Stars to fine-tune all of the official details.
As a result, the two big men took some time to work out together over the summer in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, building upon their games and developing continuity prior to training camp.
This could possibly lead to Davis and Cousins officially forming the game’s best frontcourt, serving as the official head start that propels the Pelicans into the playoffs in 2018.
If Cousins can find a way to make things work with The Brow, it could spell trouble for the rest of the league, as the Pelicans could easily become the official dark horse in the Western Conference and help the organization attract other stars next summer.
This could help them become the league’s next best super-team — a potential threat to the Golden State Warriors, as the two stars can each play with their back to the basket, shoot and set up their teammates when double-teamed. Most teams will not be able to deal with their size and length, and if they can mesh well together in the high-low game, it could lead to major success.
