Miami Heat: 5 goals for Kelly Olynyk in 2017-18
By Simon Smith
2. Play at least 1,700 minutes
This is really pretty simple.
According to a report from Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinal, Olynyk will receive a $1 million bonus if he reaches a minimum of 1,700 minutes this season. As a result, this would increase his salary from $10.6 million to $11.6 million.
Last season, Olynyk played a total of 1,538 minutes at an average of 20.5 per game, representing the highest total minutes for a season in his career. If he were to repeat the 75 games he played in last season, Olynyk would need to average 22.7 minutes per game this season.
Over his four seasons, Olynyk has never averaged greater than 22.2 minutes per game for a season. Having said that, he has never played in fewer than 64 games in a season. Essentially, Olynyk has been reasonably healthy during his four-year career, but has never been extended in order to extract the maximum of his potential.
Therefore, the Heat need only to look at Olynyk’s production last season when determining how much playing time to afford him this season. When he played at least 26 minutes in a game last season, Olynyk averaged 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds while being a +130 while on the floor. This included shooting at a 59.0 percent clip from the field and 46.0 percent clip from 3-point range. Furthermore, the Celtics posted a 14-4 record during these games.
