4. Increase 3-point shooting volume

As a seven-footer, Olynyk’s ability to stretch the floor and shoot the three-ball provides the Heat will a tremendous amount of flexility moving forward. However, this an area in which Olynyk and the Heat should further utilize this season.

Last season, Olynyk shot at a 35.4 percent clip from 3-point range on 2.6 attempts per game. This mirrors his career numbers of a 36.8 percent return on 2.5 attempts per game.

As a member of the Celtics last season, Olynyk had 11 games in which he attempted five or more 3-pointers, including a season-high seven attempts on two occasions. Over these games, he shot at a 36.1 percent clip. Conversely, Olynyk had 21 games in which he attempted just one or less shots from downtown.

As a team, the Heat’s 3-point proficiency last season flourished as the year progressed. Having shot at a 33.8 percent clip over the first 41 games on 25.6 attempts per game, the Heat shot at a 39.0 percent clip on 28.4 attempts per game over the second half of the season. This increased focus on the 3-ball should pave the way for Olynyk to also expand and increase his proficiency in this area.

One spot in which Olynyk was incredibly effective was the corner three-ball. For the season, Olynyk shot at a 56.3 percent clip from the corner. However, he attempted just 32 in total for the season. Two his made corner threes for the season came during a 26-point performance against the Atlanta Hawks.

For the season, the Heat as a team averaged 8.3 attempts per game for the season, shooting at a 40.2 percent clip.

Considering Olynyk’s efficiency levels from this spot, and the Heat’s clear intention to emphasise pace and space, making the most of this area on offence can only benefit both player and team.
