Having signed as a free agent with the Miami Heat this offseason, here are five goals for Kelly Olynyk in 2017-18.

After missing out on their primary free agent target in Gordon Hayward, the Miami Heat had to quickly change course and direct their attention elsewhere.

As a result, center Kelly Olynyk was brought aboard on a four-year deal. A seven-footer with the ability to stretch the floor, Olynyk certainly provides the Heat frontcourt with a real point of difference.

Over his four-year stint with the Boston Celtics, Olynyk started in just 36 of his 278 career games. But for one reason or another, Olynyk was never afforded the opportunity to fully display his potential during this period, as evidenced by his career high of just 22.2 minutes per game in 2015-16.

Last season, Olynyk averaged 9.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 20.5 minutes per game. Overall, he shot at a 51.2 percent clip from the field and 35.4 percent from 3-point range.

As a member of the Celtics, Olynyk’s primary role was as a backup center to Amir Johnson, while also sharing the frontcourt with forward-center Al Horford. With the Heat, Olynyk will be sharing frontcourt duties with incumbent center Hassan Whiteside and stretch-4 James Johnson.

With last season’s starter at the 4-spot, Luke Babbitt, having departed this offseason, its unclear at this stage whether Olynyk or Johnson will assume the starting power forward role. So on the eve of his first training camp with the Heat, here are five goals for Olynyk in 2017-18.
