It’s hard to predict what the Grizzlies might get out of Tyreke Evans next year. Let’s take a look at what they could use most.

The Memphis Grizzlies‘ 2017-18 NBA season is nearly upon us, and in preparation we’re spending some time setting expectations for the team’s most important players by outlining several goals that will, should they be achieved, allow for both individual and collective success. If you missed our previous installments, please feel free take a look at the five goals we set for Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, here and here.

Our focus for today, Tyreke Evans, is a newcomer to Memphis. Evans was named Rookie of the Year in 2010. His game hasn’t evolved game much since that point. His ability to attack the rim was, and presumably still is, his greatest strength, but Evans never grew into a consistent enough jump shot to maximize his abilities on the offensive end of the court. Injuries have limited his opportunity to realize growth in a meaningful way. The Grizzlies are hoping he can change that in Memphis.

Landing Evans at the price they did, a one-year deal worth $3.3 million, was a smart move. He’s only 27, and has shown not just the ability to be a solid rotation piece, but the potential to be even more useful than that as well. If the Grizzlies get even 75 percent of the best version of who Evans has been as a basketball player to date, it will have been worth the money. If they get a player whose game is more matured, his contract will be an incredible bargain.

There is a lot that has to go right for either of those scenarios to come to pass. Let’s take a look at some goals that should help Evans get there.
