Los Angeles Lakers: 5 NBA legends Lonzo Ball should be studying
The Los Angeles Lakers’ Lonzo Ball has the makings of an eventual All-Star, but that doesn’t mean he should be complacent. Studying the following five players would only expedite his development.
When the Los Angeles Lakers spent the No. 2 overall pick on Lonzo Ball back in June, they knew they were getting a dynamic talent. Between his elite passing skills and composure under pressure, he seemed to have the tools necessary to brighten this franchise’s future.
Despite that, it’s going to take some hard work for him to tap into that potential. LaVar Ball may not like it, but Lonzo might need more than just the uplifting words of his father to take his game to the next level. In fact, he should really consider tapping into some of the NBA’s biggest legends for lessons and pointers.
According to LaVar, someone such as Steve Nash isn’t an option. As he so eloquently alluded to, the future Hall of Famer is too “short and slow” to teach his son (via Clutch Points’ Ryan Ward). That got me thinking — who would be ideal teachers for Ball?
Instead of limiting myself to retired players, though, I decided to widen the potential pool of candidates. So I asked the question, “which NBA legends should Lonzo be studying?” While having the face-to-face effect of teaching/training is ideal, studying film can have a similar impact if done correctly.

That led me to this list of five legends, both current and past, whose games would be excellent for Ball to mold his own after. All have similar skill-sets to Lonzo and possess talents that would translate well to what the Lakers are looking for from their young guard.
