The Portland Trail Blazers have reportedly added Archie Goodwin to their training camp roster.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Portland Trail Blazers have signed former first round draft pick Archie Goodwin to their training camp roster. Wojnarowski reported the signing Thursday afternoon via Twitter.
Goodwin, 23, was originally selected 29th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2013 NBA Draft. His draft rights were traded first to the Golden State Warriors, who then traded his rights to the Phoenix Suns.
The 6’5″ guard played a total of 150 games with the Suns, posting career highs in points (8.8), rebounds (2.4) and assists per game (2.0) in his last season with Phoenix (2015-16). He was released by the Suns prior to the 2016-17 NBA season in a move many felt was unexpected.
However, it was later revealed the Goodwin had originally requested a trade. The Suns were unable to accommodate, resulting in Goodwin being cut.
Goodwin landed with the New Orleans Pelicans in November 2016, appearing in three games prior to being waived shortly thereafter. He left New Orleans averaging 5.0 points in 9.9 minutes per game on 40 percent shooting.
He ended up on the Brooklyn Nets, playing a total of 12 games. He averaged 7.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 15.4 minutes per game, shooting 55.7 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from behind the arc.
Altogether, Goodwin played 15 NBA games over the course of the 2016-17 season, averaging 7.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 14.3 minutes per game. Shooting-wise, Goodwin went 54.5 percent from the field and 33.0 percent from 3-point range.
He spent the majority of last season playing with the G League’s Greensboro Swarm, starting 33 out of 34 total games played. While playing 32.7 minutes per game for Greensboro, he averaged 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals on 43.8 percent shooting from the field.

Goodwin is no stranger to the G League after having been assigned to the Bakersfield Jam (now the Northern Arizona Suns) numerous times while playing in Phoenix. With the Blazers roster maxed out, Goodwin will likely spend the majority of his time in the G League this upcoming season.
