Phoenix Suns: Complete 2017 offseason grades
Picking out Peters
Forget about the foot injury that ended his senior season or the fact that most late second round picks never pan out, because if you’re not rooting for the Valparaiso big man after hearing his name called by the Suns, there’s not much else to say:
Peters, a 22-year-old senior, projects to be a stretch-4 and might have been taken much higher if not for the foot injury that prevented him from participating in Summer League action.
In his final season with the Crusaders, the 6’9″ power forward averaged 23.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from downtown on 5.5 attempts per game.
"“With he and Davon, our two second round picks, we feel like we got two of the better shooters in draft, which is obviously another area that we need to improve,” McDonough said."
If not for that injury, Peters would’ve been more widely recognized as one of the best shooting big men in the draft. Whether he turns out to be a second round steal or just another hopeful shot in the dark remains to be seen, but best of luck trying not to root for this guy.
