The Phoenix Suns may not be ready to compete for a Western Conference title this season, but they should have some realistic goals in place to continue moving forward in the right direction. Here are four goals relating to the entire organization that are attainable in 2017-18.
The Phoenix Suns had a relatively quiet offseason. For a young team that had the second-lowest team salary in 2016-17 ($84,876,422), they didn’t make any moves with the large cap space that they have at their disposal. Instead, head coach Earl Watson was able to continue fostering the sense of family surrounding the current players, building the chemistry and the ideology behind the process that is in place for this team.
The draft was a very productive one for the Suns. On the night of the NBA Draft Lottery, fans’ hearts sank when Mark Tatum announced that Phoenix, who had the second-worst record in the NBA last year (24-58), would be selecting fourth in the draft.
Through some pre-draft shakeups and trades, Josh Jackson, the long and wiry wing from Kansas, fell into the laps of Robert Sarver, Ryan McDonough and Earl Watson. Getting Jackson was exactly what the Suns needed, and it was the start to a very productive draft.
Now as we are nearing the start of training camp for NBA teams, let’s take a look at four realistic goals for the team that would make this upcoming season as much of a success as it can be.
