2. Adjusting to playing small-ball

An important factor not to be overlooked should be that the Washington Wizards commit to the importance of scoring from long range. Since we’ve touched on Otto Porter’s talents on both sides of the court, now we look to the adjustment.

It is more than likely we will see more interesting lineups in an attempt to improve their deep threat while also slimming some minutes off from Gortat. In all probability, we may see Markieff Morris move to center at times and see a rotation like this, for example:

  1. John Wall
  2. Bradley Beal
  3. Jodie Meeks/Kelly Oubre Jr.
  4. Otto Porter Jr.
  5. Markieff Morris

With a lineup like this, each player can potentially hit from beyond the arc and it also opens up possibilities on the inside. Porter has proven more than capable on defense and at times his versatility has been explored.

Of his total minutes last season, he spent 77.0 percent of his time at the 3-spot and 23 percent of his time playing at the 4-spot. If Porter can prove he is able to defend some of the larger forwards in the league, the Washington Wizards will be able to explore more small-ball options on offense.
