4. Making better decisions with the ball

Porter has improved in many areas on the court, but he finished among the league leaders in other areas besides shooting the rock. His decision-making with the ball and ability to avoid turnovers is impressive and highly valued. Last season, he led the NBA with the best turnover percentage of 4.9, which is determined by an estimate of turnovers committed per 100 plays.

He was by far the best player of the Wizards’ starting five when it came to taking care of the ball. Compared to John Wall, who averaged 4.1 turnovers per game and totaled 322, Porter finished with 44 on the season, boiling down to 0.4 turnover per game. Obviously he has the ball way less than the team’s offensive maestro, but Porter rarely coughs it up.

For Porter to improve at this area even further, we can look at where a majority of these turnovers came from. Of 44 total turnovers, 27 of them were the product of a poor misguided pass. While Porter posted just 1.5 assists per game, being able to be a bit more accurate with his passing inches him that much closer to being the complete player the Wizards need him to be.

If Porter can execute well this season and improve these two areas, he could help make an All-Star riddled cast that much more competitive.
