After a pleasantly surprising rookie year with the Phoenix Suns, here are five goals for Tyler Ulis in the upcoming 2017-18 NBA season.
On the stat sheet, Tyler Ulis didn’t have a strong debut season with the Phoenix Suns. Averaging 7.3 points and 3.7 assists in 18.4 minutes per game, the former Kentucky Wildcat shot just 42.1 percent from the field and 26.6 percent from 3-point range in his 61 appearances.
However, for those who continued to tune in to Suns games after the All-Star break, those flashes of brilliance early in the season were on display on a nightly basis. In his final 15 games of the season, all of which were starts in place of the resting Eric Bledsoe, Ulis put up 16.1 points, 8.5 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game.
Though his strong finish wasn’t enough to get him onto the All-Rookie Second Team, Ulis was finally appearing on people’s radars as yet another promising rookie from last year’s draft class and one of its best second round steals.
At just 5’9″, Ulis makes up for his size disadvantage with exemplary speed, court vision, basketball I.Q. and passing ability. It remains to be seen whether he’ll top off as a high-end backup or eventually make the jump to starting-caliber point guard, but heading into his second year, what can Ulis do to cement himself as a core piece of #TheTimeline?
We’ve already covered 2017-18 goals for T.J. Warren (here), Dragan Bender (here) and rookie Josh Jackson (here), but today, we’ll be taking a look at five goals for Tyler Ulis this upcoming season.
