4. Joakim Noah’s problems

Joakim Noah joined the Knicks during last summer after being recruited by former Chicago Bulls teammate Derrick Rose. Noah signed a four-year, $72 million contract to serve as the veteran defensive leader of the Knicks protecting the center position.

Instead of a strong leader, Noah seemed extremely injury-prone from training camp to the start of the season. Rookie big man Willy Hernangomez eventually took over the starting center job as Noah either couldn’t stay healthy or was a liability on both ends of the court.

Noah surprised Knicks fans and the rest of the league after news broke in March that the former Defensive Player of the Year violated the league substance abuse policy.

The violation resulted in a 20-game suspension that would carry over the last 10 games of this season and the first 10 of next year. According to league sources, Noah tested positive for an over-the-counter supplement that is banned under the outgoing Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Noahm a New York native, fully understands the pressures of playing in the largest media city so it’s very surprising that he made these mistakes. His season is best summed up from his ugly air ball free throw last season against the Indiana Pacers.
