2.Win Defensive Player of the Year honors

Over the past 20 years, the recipients of the Defensive Player of the Year award have combined to average 2.4 blocks per game. Since entering the NBA, Anthony Davis has swatted away 793 shots in 335 career games, resulting in an average of 2.4 blocks per game.

Each season, Davis has managed to make an impact defensively, ranking in the top-4 in blocks per game each of the past four seasons and leading the league in blocks per game twice.

Rarely does an opponent get a clear look at the rim with Davis on the floor, as he contested 9.9 shots attempts a game, tying him for the seventh-most in the NBA last year.

The contributions of Davis defensively extend far beyond his ability to alter shot attempts. He held opponents to a shooting percentage of 41.5 percent when defending them, the lowest among any player to appear in more than 70 games.

Davis ranked fifth in defensive win shares and seventh in defensive rating last year, enough to secure his second selection to the All-NBA Defensive Second team.

All Davis needs is to make a similar impact on a team in playoff contention. Not only could he supplant Rudy Gobert on the All-NBA Defensive First team, he could be in line for Defensive Player of the Year honors.
