4. Maintain elite assist-to-turnover ratio

While Johnson still needs to fine-tune certain areas of his offensive game, one aspect that he clearly excelled in last season was his overall ball-handling.

Overall, Johnson recorded an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.59. This terrific return ranked 25th overall among players who averaged at least 24 minutes per game. And among all guards, Johnson ranked 21st in this area.

This area of his game alone highlights just how far Johnson has come in his short time in the league. In his first season, Johnson recorded an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.40. He followed this up in his second season with a 1.68 ratio return, before taking things to a whole new level this past season.

So impressive was his ball control that over the course of last season, Johnson had 20 games where he recorded zero turnovers. Notably over this stretch of 20 games, Johnson averaged 14.5 points per game, and was a +91 while on the floor.

Without a truly recognized backup point guard on the Heat roster, Johnson’s ball-handling coming off the bench is a crucial element to their success. But if his development in this area continues at the same rate, this element of Johnson’s game will undoubtedly assist in taking the Heat to the next level this upcoming season.
