Atlanta Hawks: 5 goals for Taurean Prince in 2017-18
5. Play multiple positions
Versatility has become a premium asset in the NBA.
With the pick-and-roll becoming such a factor for every offense in the league and lineups featuring five capable long range shooters becoming increasingly common, being able to switch off and defend a multitude of positions is a must.
Part of the reason Taurean Prince was selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft was based on his potential to guard a majority of the players in the league.
Atlanta could start a lineup with Kent Bazemore, a 28-year-old guard with five years of NBA experience, being the most experienced player. The lack of experience could lead to lineups constantly shuffling, meaning Prince could carve out a larger piece in the rotation by lining up anywhere he is needed.
As a rookie, according to Basketball-Reference, Prince spent 72 percent of his time at small forward, 19 percent as power forward and 9.0 percent of his time on the court as a shooting guard.
Even though he lined up at three different positions, Prince is capable of guarding up to four, perhaps enabling him to thrive in coach Mike Budenholzer’s system as DeMarre Carroll did just a few years ago.
