Washington Wizards: 5 goals for John Wall in 2017-18

2. Avoiding the worst “leading” statistic
Sometimes, being the best at something is not always going to be as great as it sounds; especially when it’s the leading the league in turnovers. Although he did not lead the league in this category in 2016-17, he did during the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons. Every year since, he’s finished second or third, and that has become the trend that needs to end.
For his career, John Wall is averaging 3.8 turnovers per game. For the past two seasons, that number has risen to 4.1 per game. While he has averaged just over 10 assists per game for the past three years, it still comes way too close to a 2:1 turnover to assist ratio.
During the 2016-17 regular season, John Wall committed 322 total turnovers with 194 of them being the result of a misdirected pass. If he can bring the number of off-target passes from over half to just a third of his turnovers, that would be a vast improvement.
For just the second time in his career, John Wall needs to make it a high priority to not be in the top 10 in turnovers this year.
