4. Average 0.9 points per possession on post-ups

Leonard has a post game, but it’s not his main claim to fame. According to NBA Math, most of his touches came on spot-up opportunities in 2016-17. Post-ups are tied for third-most with cutter situations.

However, post-up situations stick out for two reasons. First, his 7’1″, 245-pound frame seems to lend itself to a player that should get the ball on the block. Secondly, he doesn’t produce much when he posts up. Leonard averaged 0.69 points per possession on post-ups in 2016-17. That was a drop-off from 0.87 in 2015-16.

Leonard likely won’t turn into an old school center next season. However, he should still make the effort to improve when he has his back to the basket. Doing so will draw attention to himself and open up opportunities for other shooters.

Meyers Leonard has the tools to shoot from anywhere. Getting better in the post for the 9.7 percent of those possessions he’s called upon will add another facet to his game for opponents to figure out.
