Portland Trail Blazers big Meyers Leonard had a rough 2016-17. Here are five goals he can work towards to improve in 2017-18.

Portland Trail Blazers big man Meyers Leonard signed a four-year, $41 million deal in the summer of 2016. The deal came after years of inconsistency; Leonard held a 12.2 Player Efficiency Rating through his first four seasons.

His 2015-16 season was cut short in March by a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. Still, the Blazers believed in Leonard and paid him accordingly.

Year one of his new deal did not go very well. Leonard played a career-high 74 games in 2016-17. However, he only averaged 5.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. He also accumulated career-worsts in field goal percentage (38.6 percent) and PER (8.9).

Meyers Leonard was taken with the No. 11 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, five spots behind Damian Lillard. Both were set to play a key role in moving the team out of the Nate McMillan era and towards Western Conference contention. Instead, it has been five years of fluctuating production.

At his April exit interview, Leonard indicated how excited he was for this offseason. Unlike last year, he heads into this summer healthy. That will allow him to practice and work out as much as possible in order to improve his game. Here are five goals he could strive towards accomplishing in 2017-18.
