3. Provide veteran leadership

This was clearly an area the Sixers looked to addressed this offseason.

Along with Redick, the Sixers also signed veteran free agent Amir Johnson to a one-year deal. Splitting time between the 4- and 5-spots, Johnson will provide a terrific sounding board for the Sixers’ young frontcourt.

But Redick will also have his hands full in mentoring the younger players. Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons are just 19 and 21 respectively, and have yet to debut. Second-year swingman Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is 22, while fellow shooting guard Nik Stauskas will be soon be 24 and is entering fourth year in the league.

Just after he signed with the Sixers, Redick acknowledged that providing leadership is going to be part-and-parcel of his presence on the Sixers’ roster:

"“I was very fortunate to have some great veterans to set the tone for me. I think I can speak for Amir (Johnson) as well. We are in the second phase of our career. We’ve been through enough now and have enough wisdom that we can be an effective elder.”"

Leading the way for the Sixers is certainly uncharted waters for Redick, who over his last four seasons with the Clippers has played on teams laden with veteran presences. But now 33, and having appeared in the playoffs in each of his 11 seasons in the league, including a trip to the NBA Finals in 2009, Redick’s knowledge and performance on the floor should provide a terrific example to the emerging group of young stars on the Sixers’ roster.
