Philadelphia 76ers: 5 goals for J.J. Redick in 2017-18
By Simon Smith
4. Shoot at an elite level from the mid-range
While Redick had another consistent season last year with the Clippers, his mid-range game was certainly an area that let him down.
Over his first three seasons with the Clippers, Redick shot a sizzling 51.0 percent from between 15-19 feet, which overall made up 19.4 percent of his total field goal attempts.
However last season, this shooting percentage dropped to 38.3 percent, and made up 16.7 percent of his total field goal attempts. Considering the mid-range zone of 15-19 feet represents Redick’s second highest area in terms of volume, this was certainly a disappointment for Redick and the Clippers.
While the 3-pointer is clearly his signature shot (last season this made up 52.56 percent of his total attempts), the Sixers will need Redick to regain his shot from this area of the floor. As former teammate Blake Griffin noted during Redick’s time in Los Angeles:
"“When he is hitting shots, it just puts another dimension of pressure on a team. You can’t give him any space.”"
And considering the Sixers ranked 29th in the league for accuracy from this range at a 35.9 percent clip, having Redick return to his previous heights from this range will certainly be crucial.
